Denver Zoo and KoEco team jointly studied the migration behavior of Cinereous Vultures in Ikh Nart, Mongolia and South Korea.
We hypothesized that at least some adult and juvenile Cinereous Vultures left Ikh Nart, Mongolia in autumn and traveled through China to South Korea to spend the winter before returning in February and March. However, our telemetry locations indicated that all adult birds we tracked remained in or near Mongolia throughout the year. Only immature birds disperse from Mongolia in late autumn and early winter, while adults remain in their home ranges.
